Process Paper
Clara Barton: The Founder of the American Red Cross
by Sarika Vura
Why I chose this topic:
I chose this topic because I have always been interested in the Red Cross and its activities. When I read about the history of the Red Cross I was curious to know more about the founder of this amazing foundation. I read about what events led to Clara Barton founding the Red Cross. The thing that made me choose this topic was that she was different and created her own path in life.
How I conducted my research:
I began my research by looking up the American Red Cross website. I then went to the library and looked up the catalogue to find books on Clara Barton and the Red Cross. I also searched online for more information on the same topics as well as pictures. I borrowed books from the library and read them and took notes. I also took notes from websites related to the topic.
How I created and developed my website:
When I completed my research I began creating my website. At first I went to weebly.com to make a website. Before starting on the website I created a flow chart that outlined my webpages. I then typed the title, text, tabs, and pictures. My research notes made this process easier. I then published my website.
How my project relates to the theme:
The founding of the American Red Cross in 1881 in Dansville, New York had a significant impact on U.S. history. It was a turning point in history because it was a new way to support people in need. This topic relates to the theme Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events because if Clara Barton had not founded the American Red Cross, millions of people would be without help during wars and natural disasters. Her idea changed the way the American people look at helping others. It was a turning point in history because it was founded by a woman after the civil war. She was a pioneer who made a difference in people's lives by creating a lasting legacy.
